Outstanding response!!

In response to my poem to publicly shame Nachiketa for not coming out to run with us (errr… I mean eat luchi mangsho with us) – which I might hasten to add was extremely effective since he signed up immediately, my school friend Sibapriya (remember him? I visited him and his parents in Midnapore a couple of months back) posted an outstanding response in the form of another Bengali poem he wrote (written to a different iambic metre). In this he urges Nachiketa NOT to come out and run/eat luchi mangsho etc…

Luchi aar mangsho!
Chalupar ongsho?!
Ei ki go tomader ghata kore
Calorie dhongsho?
Ray,Mukhopadhyay ra ki
Pagoler bongsho?

Seshpate whiskey!
Noy ki ta risky?
Chalupar chalaki
Douroley henchki?
Durethako Nachiketa
Jeonako hethahotha!!!

Well played, Sibapriya, well played!! I bow to superior talent!!

My cool friends

Most twenty somethings find me very weird. This is no different than thirty somethings or forty somethings 🙂 However, there are two folks – Shruthi and her boyfriend Hank who actually seek to meet me whenever they are in Atlanta. I know Shruthi’s dad from 1991 and have actually seen this young lady grow up from a few days old to the fine lady she is now.

I was very excited that they would spend an hour with me today. I find both of them very classy (I cannot think of too many kids that age writing hand written letters to thank me for an evening of discussing job choices and professional guidance. Most don’t bother to write a nice email).

Had a great hour with both of them at a local Starbucks. Made me realize how much smarter young folks these days are compared to when I was their age! As an example of how smart they are, Shruthi was narrating the story of a recent job interview she had gone to and how the interviewer reminded her of me. When asked how so, she went at length to describe how she found him to be a weirdo 🙂

I was so proud of myself, I asked the Starbucks lady to write my name as “Weirdo” 🙂

I wish I could many more hours with these really great kids!!

Same place, same time, new person…

Just like last Puja, this time too in the evening I walked up to the restaurant nearby (from where the Puja was going on) and settled down at the bar for a glass of wine. This time Sid joined me instead of Rupak and Amitesh. The bar still has a chessboard. So, Sid and I tried to solve the 8 queen problem again manually. Sid came up with one very quickly and that is pretty much all we got this evening….

Patron Cafe, anyone?

One of the best things of the team I work with is the end-of-week or sometimes end-of-day call for “Let’s go for a drink before we go home”. Unsurprisingly, we have solved a lot more problems at a bar than actually sitting in a office. Today’s rule was – “No office discussions”.
Gasan, the team entertainer introduced Sunjay and myself to a new drink – Patron Cafe. It is a shot of coffee and tequila. While we were impressed with his knowledge of the history and owners of the drink, he was no match to our ultimate question – “Tequila makes us sleepy. Coffee wakes us up. Why go thru that hysteresis curve?” 🙂

6K in dark Pine Mountain

Karthik and I got out in the cold dark roads of Callaway Gardens at 6am for a 5K run. Myself in layers, earmuffs, headgear etc wondering why did I forget to pack in the gloves. He, in shorts and half shirt. No caps either! You want to guess which one of us studied in Wisconsin? 🙂 Btw, we landed up running 6K since we got lost on the way 🙂 🙂

Great Evening…

Great evening with the family at Azul with the new tapas menu. Amitesh, Sudipto and Mishti joined us to make it a perfect evening. Chris, Holly and Jenny took great care of us. Lauren belted some mind blowing songs. Owners Chuck and Saloni were unbelievably gracious, as always! Got to meet the Consular General of India too!!
The new Indian tapas menu is perfect !!!
