Nice is very rainy today. Fortunately, it is schedule to completely clear out tonight.

One of my big learnings this year after visiting Prague, Krakow and now Nice is that every European city has a “old town” part. I guess it speaks to how old Europe has been around!

It was raining. And that made it so much more enjoyable with the umbrellas open and all that.

We were sitting under an awning (it was raining outside) with two drinks and enjoying the sight of rains on the Mediterranean Sea. This gentleman with his bright red umbrella grabbed my attention somehow. He simply kept gazing into the sea.

We were milling thru the narrow streets of Old Town Nice when this Confiserie caught our eye. We went in and tried all sorts of stuff they had. They looked like cakes but were very hard. Hard enough that the lady – Yasmin from Tunisia – had to get on a stool and put her entire bodyweight on the hacksaw – and even then, she struggled to cut it in pieces!! And Sharmila took 4 of them!!

Yasmin let us know that we do not need to refrigerate any of those and they will be fine for one year. So, if any of you live near us, we will need some help finishing these!!

While taking a walk on the promenade, saw a few folks cleaning up the floor of the restaurant on the beach. But their sweep movements were making a little more noise than I would have assumed. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that they were sweeping away stones and small rocks. The beach here in Nice is not sand but a lot of small rocks. Overnight, the tide brings in all sorts of stones to the restaurant floor. And then every morning, the staff clears them out!

I was not expecting these many flights – about 300 take offs and landing per day – in Nice. See the plane line up against the runway (you can see the red and white barricades) against the backdrop of beautiful blue of the Mediterranean Sea.

The fruits looked really fresh.

The entry into Monaco was a bit underwhelming – while going thru a tunnel in a Bolt car! France and Monaco maintains joint border control – so we did not need any passports to cross the international boundary!

The promenade here is very beautiful. Lots of trees with shade as well as coffee places and bars.

What we did not realize is that we had landed up in Monaco on a special day. Apparently, the Monaco Yacht Show 2024 is going on. The streets were fairly crowded. But nothing was crowding up more than all those yachts and superyachts. There were dozens and dozens of them lined up!

Remember how yesterday we landed up in a crowded Monaco with the Monaco Yacht Show going on? Looks like today we have landed up in Cannes in the middle of a regatta race!

This was a lane more from India and less from France. Most of the time, we walked on dirt roads. Very few people live here. Good adventure.
