Too early for a puzzle?

I know it is only Tuesday but I am on my flight back home and there are two of my friends who have sent me puzzles that I thought can be posted here…

This one comes courtesy of Amrith Kumar. I sent him an answer – but I have not received confirmation whether I am right or not. So, we might have to wait till he publishes the answer.

Think of all the 4 digit numbers ( leading 0s count). Essentially 0000 to 9999. Now pick only those numbers where the first two digits add up to the same number as the last two digits. So 1533 qualifies as does 0312 and so on.

You have to prove that the total of all such numbers (if you add them up) is divisible by 3 as well as 11.

Have you ever seen this?

Terminal B at Washington Dulles airport.
There are two Starbucks literally facing each other!
One of them (the left one in my panorama picture) has name and logo written in white and black (the other one is in familiar white and green)!!
The one on the left serves wine!!!

Why one would go thru the hysteresis curve of waking up with coffee from the green Starbucks and then doze off with the wine from the black Starbucks, beats the heck out of me πŸ™‚

Sunday morning run

A beautiful morning in north Atlanta. Cool and cloudy. Perfect day for a run. The usual suspects – Samaresh, Arup, Manas and myself were there. Rupak, in spite of threatening to, did not show up πŸ™‚ We missed Speedy Gonzalez Amitesh for the run (partying too late) – but he sprang a surprise by showing up for post-run coffee. And he bought us coffee for missing the run πŸ™‚

Once a tradition, always a tradition

Our motley crowd of Bengalis did not have our group run today. Amitesh is in Myrtle Beach, Arup is somewhere up in the high mountains, Samaresh is in Altanta and I am in Hilton Head.
But come 7:30, as promised, we all got out and ran a virtual group run from wherever we were.
A promise is a promise is a promise.
[given Arup’s running attire today, I can safely assume he is in a colder place than the rest of us πŸ™‚ ]

That’s like saying “Would Mr.Smith step up, please”? :-)

Boston Delta Skyclub is one of the biggest Skyclubs I have ever seen. I walk in and I was surprised to see a lot of my fellow Indians there. Found out – there are delayed flights to Paris (connecting to Bombay and Delhi) or something like that.
Anyways, I settled down and was busy catching up on emails when I heard the lady at the desk announce “Would passenger Patel please meet the front desk?”. Bemused, I looked over – and sure enough, in under 7 seconds there was a 11 deep queue!!
I don’t think the poor lady at the desk realized what was going on!!!

Negative splits

Taking advantage of the cool morning, tried putting in negative splits. First mile at 9:08, second one at 8:48 and then gave everything for the third mile at 7:10. And soon I realized that it might be cool in Milton at 5:30 in the morning, but it is humid as heck. Was sweating bullets for 15 minutes before I even dared to go inside the Starbucks to order a coffee….

Run in Georgia Tech but jackets were not quite yellow!

After a long time ran 5 miles in the Georgia Tech area. The campus looks beautiful in the early hours of the morning. I had my red shirt and red shoes on. If you think that is weird, listen to this. As I came up the hill on State Rd and pulled up at the intersection of 14th street, I ran into another runner coming up on my left with a red shirt and red shoes on!! And she had red earbuds for her iPod to match. As we waited for cross traffic to die down, to make polite chat, we almost simultaneously, landed up saying “Nice shoes” to each other!! Awkwardness soon gave way to levity and coincidence of the moment : we laughed out loud and continued running our own way… Funny start to a day…
