Yellowjackets don’t scare me :-)
After getting hopelessly lost in the Georgia Tech campus, today I was careful to study all the landmarks as I ran. Cost of that studious behavior was my running speed was 10:30 min/mile rather than 9:00 🙁 On the other hand, I learnt something. Sumit Rao, yesterday had enquired in my blog if the buses in his alma mater were still called Stinger. Today, I actually looked for them – and indeed they are called Stingers. I guess it is a reference to the Georgia Tech “Yellow Jackets”. Anyways, it was an enjoyable 5 miles. But I might need to take a rest day tomorrow. 67 miles of barefoot running in 18 days – this is the most I have put after the transition to barefoot running. The shins are sore.
Indian Olympics
Couple of days back, I had written about how I, having been conditioned by NBC’s coverage was surprised to find out that we were trailing China in gold and medal count in general. Which led to some interesting observations and comments from my friends including how China’s coverage is also one-sided and some analysis of who is leading in medals per thousand people of population and per dollar of GDP and such.
After reading all the comments, I came to realize the advantage of growing up in India. Since we could not win any medal by ourselves, we got to see all the great athletes from all the countries 🙂

Good old Roger
5 mile run with good old Roger. We clipped the last mile at 7:24 pace!!! — with Roger Whitney at Big Creek Greenway Trailhead – Fowler Park
What else is new?
4 mile Sunday morning run with Samaresh. Together we wore the colors of the soccer team – East Bengal – we hated most when we lived a stone’s throw away 30 years back :-)— with Samaresh Mukhopadhyay at Starbucks.
Say ahhhh!
Lighter Side of Life: After my 5 mile run, I ordered a smoothie at Starbucks and stepped out to stretch. As I mightily struggled to get my fingers to touch my toes, from the corner of my eyes, I noticed this board next to me. Hilarious!! — at Starbucks.
My blonde wife!
Lighter Side of Life: Trying to address her greying roots, Sharmila applied some new fangled stuff (what are they called? conditioner? artificial colorizer? ) on her hair. With enough time in hand, towel in head and all, she finally goes thru the details in the label. Sure enough, it says Blonde and not Brown!!! Anybody has some urgent work for me that can keep me away from home for a few hours? 🙂 — with Sharmila Roy.
