Great start to a day
Sunday morning run with my Bengali friends – the old Faithfuls – Amitesh, Arup and Samaresh. And then, of course “coffee aar adda” (Starbucks and chatting). Although, Samaresh did bail out of the coffee. There is something to be said about that. For, as a community, we the Bengalis, are not exactly known for prioritizing running over “coffee aar adda” π In fact, we have a very famous Bengali song about a coffeehouse in Kolkata but none about running π [Strictly speaking, there is a famous song about Runner – but in Bengali in those days – it meant ‘the postman’ – when mail was delivered by human beings running from village to village]
This trip’s puzzle
Long coast to coast flight now π Here is something to keep you busy as I take a nap π
Once again, send me personal message on FB if you have the answer – not in the Comments section.
Last week was my elder daughter (Natasha)’s fifteenth birthday. She had a bunch of school friends over for dinner and sleepover. The shrill decibel levels with a dozen teenagers at our house was enough for the dog to sleep most of the time outside our house π But I digress. One of her friend’s mom has a cupcake business and we were glad to give her some business. Her standard packagings were 6 cupcakes to a packet, 9 cupcakes to a packet and 20 cupcakes to a packet. We ordered 60 and she delivered 3 packets of 20 each.
Which leads me to my question – what is the maximum number of cupcakes we could have ordered that she would not have been able to fit neatly in her packets? (e.g. 17 cupcakes would be impossible to neatly fit in her packets – there will be some leftovers. I am looking for the highest number that would not fit in her 6/9/20 packet combinations)
Al Gore
“According to Forbes magazine, Al Gore is now worth more than $200 million. This is what Gore meant when he talked about going green.” βJay Leno
By the way, Gore, in real life is a very funny (and self-deprecating) guy. There is an interview of him by Peter Segal (Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me) that is outrageously funny. If you wish to hear it check out the Apr 20th podcast.
My favorite – Al Gore claims that he is so stiff and boring that the codename (when he was VP) given by Secret Service was …….. “Al Gore” π
SFO airport
Double trouble! Actually double fun!!
Meeting up with old friends during business travel? Awesome!!
Running in different beautiful places during business travel? Super awesome!!!
Running with old friends that you don’t meet often in beautiful places during business travel – Priceless!!!
Realizing you have overbooked yourself by promising two different friends to meet up after a long time and run in the same morning? A little crazy π
A very early morning 5K run with good old Neal near the Golden Bridge and then another 5K with Ananya at Crystal Springs trail. Both were unbelievably beautiful run!!
For all that craziness, I did keep up with both of them thru the whole run – each 12-15 years younger than me! I bet you though they have far lesser number of body parts hurting through the whole day π
Sukumar Roy. Updated for the 21st century.
This is for all my Bengali friends who grew up with “Abol Tabol” and other poems of Sukumar Roy. I found this on the internet. Not sure who came up with it but I would say he/she did a great job in adapting Sukumar’s “noteboi” to modern events. If imitating is the best form of flattery, then this is a great tribute to Sukumar Roy.
