Small enigmas all around you in India

Saw this in a mall yesterday. The obvious question that pops to mind – “Which one?” Followed by the inevitable “Why bother putting the buttons there to call the elevator?”.

Love these small anomalies in India that seem to surround you…

I believe the answer is “both”, because there is only one command panel and 2 buttons (up/down). it is possible that elevator was designed such that elevator access to any floor is configurable (yes/no). Then they decided to shut off access to this particular floor for any number of reasons. Leaving the such elevator buttons/command panels on all floors would enable them to make such fast configuration changes.

Installed with the idea of operating the the lift at the floor but disabled subsequently at the software level. Hardware continues on.

It definitely means both – ok, it should have said “These Elevators Do Not Serve This Floor” but still serves the purpose.
