“Ophidiophobia” !!! One heck of a coincidence!!

Saturday morning 7 mile run in the hills of Milton. So, there I was, running up the hills by myself, minding my own business, bothering nobody, listening to “Says You” where Richard was teaching a new word – Ophidiophobia (which I understand, means, fear of snakes – who knew?) when I look up and sure enough, there was a three feet snake on the road!! Freshly steeped in the knowledge of “Ophidiophobia”, I exhibited no fear whatsoever. But then again, the fact that the poor snake was pulverized head to toe by many cars might have something to do with it too ๐Ÿ™‚

Can I have a million dollars? :-)

Any one of you who have been with me to a bar or restaurant probably know that I often respond to the barman / waiter’s usual question of “Can I get you anything else?” with “Yes. A million dollars would help.” It almost always leads to some laughs and breaks the formality. The standard answers are “If I had it, I would not be here” or “If I find it, I will be sure to share” and so on..

This week I was having lunch at J. Alexander in Dunwoody with some execs from LLS and the waitress had a memorable and very witty answer. Moment I responded to her usual question with “Sure. A million dollars please”, she thought for a moment and said “No problem. It will cost you two (million) though”. She had me beat ๐Ÿ™‚ Loved it ๐Ÿ™‚

Funny sticker on car..

We have all seen the 26.2 and 13.1 stickers on marathoners’ and half-marathoners’ cars. In some extreme cases, we have seen 50.0 and 100.0 too!! But this guys has made his attitude towards running very very clear ๐Ÿ™‚ Hilarious ๐Ÿ™‚

Yellowjackets don’t scare me :-)

After getting hopelessly lost in the Georgia Tech campus, today I was careful to study all the landmarks as I ran. Cost of that studious behavior was my running speed was 10:30 min/mile rather than 9:00 ๐Ÿ™ On the other hand, I learnt something. Sumit Rao, yesterday had enquired in my blog if the buses in his alma mater were still called Stinger. Today, I actually looked for them – and indeed they are called Stingers. I guess it is a reference to the Georgia Tech “Yellow Jackets”. Anyways, it was an enjoyable 5 miles. But I might need to take a rest day tomorrow. 67 miles of barefoot running in 18 days – this is the most I have put after the transition to barefoot running. The shins are sore.

Indian Olympics

Couple of days back, I had written about how I, having been conditioned by NBC’s coverage was surprised to find out that we were trailing China in gold and medal count in general. Which led to some interesting observations and comments from my friends including how China’s coverage is also one-sided and some analysis of who is leading in medals per thousand people of population and per dollar of GDP and such.
After reading all the comments, I came to realize the advantage of growing up in India. Since we could not win any medal by ourselves, we got to see all the great athletes from all the countries ๐Ÿ™‚

Got lost near Georgia Tech

5 mile run this morning in midtown Atlanta. Was enjoying some of the gentle hill runs when I realized that I was going around in circles in the maze of Georgia Tech ๐Ÿ™‚ Finally followed a GT shuttle route back to LA Fitness. Much slower run (10:15 min/mile). But the smoothie was thoroughly enjoyed! ๐Ÿ™‚
