Busted

In a duel of lack of strength and sheer determination, lack of strength prevailed today. Got this crazy idea this morning to run a half marathon – after two years.
First ten miles (16K) were tolerable at 9:55 pace. Then I hit a wall. Just could not keep up. Walked and ran the last three miles (5K).
Gotta get back in shape again….
For the time being, hot tub and a couple of Advils, here I come…

Gritty group

The temperatures keep falling but the Bengali herd shows no signing of thinning out. Fourteen runners showed up in chilly conditions to run the Sunday morning run!
Special shout out to Raya – barely 10 years (rightmost in the photo) – who dragged herself out of bed, slept in the car as we waited for everybody to show up and then when we were ready to run, she kicked her blanket and started with us. That is something I have to remember those days when I feel too sleepy to get up and run!

Run in cold and fog…

Very very foggy morning. 41 degrees cold (5 degrees Centigrade). 8 in the morning on a Sunday. After the Saturday night Lakshmi Puja activities. Most Bengali can be located only under “lep”s (blankets) under such circumstances.
Except the Chalu-pas. 10 of them – including 2 junior runners – showed up with winter running gear sans any “monkey cap” 🙂 Not counting Ashok-“warm-clothes-are-way-overrated”-Deb 🙂

Chance Meeting…

Beautiful day in Atlanta. The sun and the clouds are constantly playing peek-a-boo with each other and a light breeze is blowing. Dropped the daughter at Chattahoochee High School for a debate program and went for a run. 5K into the run, I had a vague recollection that there was this guy that I have talked to a few times after moving to ATL but never met – who I thought had told me he lived near that High school.
Fished out the phone, got his contacts from old phone records and called him. Guess what? Six years after moving to Atlanta, we saw each other for the first time and ran another 5K. Grabbed our Starbucks – which was overcrowded outside since it is a gorgeous day – and sat on the sidewalk under a tree and chatted just like we would have back in India.
Found out we have many many connections from my last three jobs. Best part – we graduated in the same year from two different colleges literally across from each other in Chennai. For all you know we had tea together in those tea stalls between the campuses. Maybe this was not the first time we had coffee sitting on the sidewalk under the trees!!!
