Saraswati Pujo

First time seeing the crowds in Bengal streets on Saraswati Pujo day – or for that any matter any Pujo day – in a long, long, long time. Good to see that Sarawati Pujo day still lives up to its alternate name – Bengali Valentine’s Day ๐Ÿ™‚

You have missed out on the typical Bengali term – “jhari mara”. That becomes the default profession of the Bengali youth on that day – Oidin chhele ra meyeder dike “jhari” mare ๐Ÿ™‚ [Don’t ask me the root or meaning of the term.]

I had read somewhere that Lord Kamdeva(?Cupid) and Goddess Rati(?Venus) share similar birth dates on this Vasant Panchami day! No wonder the day is referred to as Bengali’s valentines day!

Vicky, it is a festival celebrating one of the many (Hindus literally have 330 million Gods, I think) Gods. This one is a prominent one – she is the Goddess of Learning (Education and Music)
