The World Happiness Report is out!

1.
The Top ten countries are Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, Finland, Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Sweden.

Apparently, to be very happy, you need to live in shivering cold 🙂

2.
India (my birth country) is at rank #122. Its arch nemesis Pakistan is #80 and every other (much smaller) neighbor – Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and get this – Myanmar – has outranked it. Upon reading this, India slipped further 3 ranks this morning 🙂

3.
Finally, there is a curious correlation between per capita alcohol consumption and happiness index. I am not suggesting any causality. Just saying 🙂

For serious readers who want to read the article and how the indices are measured… here it is… http://s3.amazonaws.com/sdsn-whr2017/HR17_3-20-17.pdf

Surprised to see US do not to different in the social support category from top tier European countries! Propaganda sometimes appear to suggest poor die on the street drinking dirty water and breathing pollution every day!!

i am not sure its the cold or alcohol or anything else , these countries really know how to keep their people happy by sharing equal social benefits to all residents including the immigrants which no other country does outside Europe I believe

Ordinary immigrants mostly toil in ghettos in Europe. Lack of integration is seen as one of the main reasons of discontent and violence like in France. Immigrants do not nearly have the opportunities in Europe that they have in the US. There is a reason most immigrants clamor to come to the US if they can. Large European countries generally have a lower “standard of living” unless you are rich. Their median income is lower and everyday prices are higher.

Once they come here and work for a certain number of years and if they are legal. It provides the opportunity to earn a living. It is immoral to grab benefits that have been earned by others. No the US does not provide benefits to freeloaders. But it does provide practically free schools for the children. BTW all the three large European countries, England, Germany and France are behind the US even in this bogus index.
