The sleeping giant!

This is the man I come to visit every 3 months. He is a pale shade of who he was. Bereft of ambulatory powers, most of his days are spent laying next to his medicine, a few favorite CDs, a couple of books…. and a monkey cap!!! This visit is for less than a day…. but it was totally worth sitting beside him for a few hours when he was awake….

It is a wonderful thing you do, visiting them as frequently as possible, from half way around the world. You are making each and every moment count. All the best to you and the rest of the family.

Great time to ruminate on what life means… Tough that this is happening to someone close to you. Am sure your coming there means a lot to him. Assuming this is a stroke, ask him to not give up on physiotherapy and resistance exercises, every day, many times a day; things do get better with physiotherapy and new neural connections(yes, it does happen) built over 4-6 months but the earlier the better before muscles get wasted. Get a physiotherapit to come home daily and nag him to do his exercises. Sorry to be giving unsolicited gyan but if he fights it, it will go away.

Jyotsna! He had a stroke in May. But now he has a different problem. BTW, he got one knee surgery done (and badly needs to get the other one done) and this is what he did with his resistance exercises…. he forcefully resisted them!!

Thank you all for the words of encouragement. And Anushree, Swati, Subramanian and Rupak, I know what I was told growing up just like you. But remember, I have to be different!! 🙂

Sara, they were saying that I should not take a picture of somebody who is sleeping. That is what we were told when we were kids

Well that’s just universal common sense. I’m in agreement. While I was hoping for some kind of mind blowing wisdom, some age-old phrase from your ancestors 450 years back, this is still constructive.
