To follow up on the last map puzzle….

What do you think this world map represents? Think in terms of what ties US, Burma and what I think is Liberia…Screen Shot 2013-08-06 at 10.23.20 PM

Liberia was a colony of USA. Its flag is same as of USA with one star as against 50 on US flag. Myanmar connection- no idea.

I don’t think that is Burma – looks more like the whole of Indo-China covering Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam etc. Could be the similarity is in all cases native populations were displaced by incoming waves of settlers themselves escaping political, ethnic, religious or economic persecution?

As many of you have figured out, this is indeed the map of the world of countries that do NOT use the metric system. I get that US has always got to be different and that Liberia was a colony of the US. But why Burma??

Thanks Melanie – I stand corrected! I wish I’d paid more attention in Geography lessons in school

Burma’s last tech innovation was the Burma teak, which a British officer measured with his inch ruler. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hello Jayanti-miss! Great to see you on FB. Can never forget your explanation of the difference between the “world” and “earth” in Class 8 on your first day…Even makes more sense when I came to the US in 1990 and saw them declaring “World Champions of American Football”, and the only logical explanation I could pull up was your lecture… The “world” is in the mind of the person, the earth is the real thing….
