This puzzle comes after I read something my friend Shilpa Daiya had posted.
Look at the following map. Can you guess what the map is about? Can you guess what the colors stand for?
There was one response that it has to do with crime or law. Confirming that it is NOT about crime or anything to do with law..

Kruti, that was the first guess that my friend Rajashekar also had. I will extend another hint. This has nothing to do with continental drift or plate tectonics. This has something to do with the state of the world TODAY.
Chris, we can eliminate population too.

If Anamika was close…are the colors for national sports? Blue in Canada is for hockey, dark blue football, green soccer, red cricket??
Marianne, close enough for me! You get full points (with assist from Anamika). This is the map of the most popular sports in different countries. Technically. national sport of India is field hockey and USA might be baseball…
