“But I have promises to keep…

…and miles to go before I sleep” ( Frost)

Last year Madhumolli (my friend from school days – one of the few that just could not stand me – but that is a story for another day ๐Ÿ™‚ ) excitedly told me that her daughter (a year younger than Natasha) had started running. Even more excitedly, I called her daughter up and before thinking much, promised to run with her within one year.
Managed to grab a train after meetings in London today, haul it to Slough, put in a 3K run with her and turned around immediately to haul back to London. We even managed to get her dad to run with us half the distance!!!
Awesome feeling to keep a promise!! Even more awesome feeling was to keep up with somebody one third my age on the running track.

Rajib Roy… Rajib. you might have made Modhumouli go back to her old mode of not being able to stand you! ๐Ÿ™‚

Rajb it was lovely to have a glimpse of you with all this running – seeing as you insist that I can’t STAND you, I may have to take up RUNNING just to keep up with you…

Vicky, someday I will tell you my concept of retirement. It is not one permanent state of retirement but taking multiple sabbaticals during my 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s but work till I can (and enjoy).

Kash, that was our fault. Debjit had just arrived from Brussels and to his credit volunteered to drive us to the running track. And then we piled on to him to run with us!!

Baisakhi, well, I have to admit that my friends have been more than welcoming to allow me to come by and run with them….

Rajib… I like your idea if retirement. It speaks to the need for variety in one’s life. Continuous work and all the free time in the world – both two sides of the same coin really. You appreciate one because the other side is there. That being said, if you find such a job, do let me know. I would at least like to apply! Now, don’t advise me to become a beach lifeguard or something. A) i won’t qualify, b) I don’t want the women in the beach throwing up, and c) I need living wages. ๐Ÿ™‚
