Saturday morning coffee
Map quiz for all of you
Back on the trail
After seven successive runs, gave the legs a little rest for three days and joined back the group again for a run. Not stretching for three days is affecting the left leg muscles. One lesson I am learning is that it is less about the rest between runs (well as long as I am not doing more than 3-4 miles) but more about the twenty minute stretching after run that makes the difference between keeping my legs healthy and getting hurt.
Do you folks have any similar experience?

This dog gets a lot of attention in the bars
After leading us to Truck and Tap, he promptly jumped on the window sill and settled down. While I went in to grab three drinks – the bar folks always add a glass of water for him. Some of the regulars like Braxton even walked up from their seats to chat with him.
We are now being referred to “That dog’s parents!”
In his other favorite bar, Chiringa – he is shown a little more respect and addressed by his full name!

An evening transported by a “Thumri”
The beauty of the words can only be bested by the tune. Both of which are from Rabi Guha Majumdar. While there are many renditions of this song – and most would say Feroza Begum is the absolute authority on this, I would lean equally to the one by Kaushiki Chakraborty.
Translations of any poem never can carry the whole impact since emotions find it infinitely more difficult to cross language bridges than words do. That said, it might be instructional to remember here that while the song is ostensibly about the moonlight, metaphorically, it is referring to the person the poet loves.
Also, if you are not familiar with the traditional Indian dress “saree” – it is a long flowing piece of cloth that women wear with great elegance.
Anyways, the words of the first stanza go…
“জোছনা করেছে আড়ি
আসেনা আমার বাড়ি
গলি দিয়ে চলে যায়,
লুটিয়ে রুপোলি শাড়ী”
Roughly speaking, (improvements welcome)
“She is upset with me like never before
For no more does she grace my abode
Quietly, she moves thru the neighboring lane
Sweeping all along with her saree’s train”

From the bartender’s corner: Irish Prick
Countries that I have been to as of today
Ride on a cooler Fall morning
Stopped at a rural Georgia coffee place cum restaurant cum bar – all rolled into one. Needed to check something on my computer. Pulled it out of the motorbike bag and opened up my emails. Asked the server lady cum cashier cum cook cum owner – “What is the WiFi password?”. She looked at me with that “What Wifi?” stare!
Enjoyed the coffee lazily.

Sixth successive day of running
Running the risk of an admonishment from Michele, put in the sixth successive day of running. Will try to make a full week streak and then take some rest. (Michele is right, after all; the left leg muscles are reminding me that my younger days are way behind me). At least, listened to Arup and matched my T-shirt and shoe colors!!
