Valentine’s day. Did you know?

Feb 14th is Valentine’s day. No doubt you know that. But if you are not from India, you may not know that Nov 14th is celebrated as Children’s Day in India. This is to celebrate India’s first prime minister Nehru’s birthday who was a great friend of children.
The discerning amongst you no doubt have realized that there is exactly 9 months between Valentine’s Day and Children’s Day in India! πŸ™‚

Rope puzzle…..

Today Linda Michelson Sandler reported that her husband – who is not a FB friend of mine – but should be – has been wondering why I have not posted any more puzzles. You know you have created a problem when people are asking around why you are not posting puzzles πŸ™‚

I had to quickly think of this one. If you know it send me PM.

You are given a bunch of ropes and a few match sticks. What you know about the ropes is that they all burn at very different rates at different segments but each one of them burns off completely in exactly 1 hour (60 minutes).

How can you measure 45 minutes? What is the minimum number of ropes and match sticks you need and how would you do it?

Se ki UP!!

First 5K run after the flu. With Sunday morning Bengali group. Seemed to have survived it so far.
Today, we changed up our route a little. At one point, we were looking up a steep hill in front of us. As we all took a deep breath before charging up the hill, Samaresh captured our collective thoughts in a few words
“Se ki UP
Baapre baap” πŸ™‚

The old man riseth..

After four days straight of being in bed, I am finally able to get up today. But then, after four straight days of not eating much, I am walking like I will be walking when I am 80 – one slow step at a time, holding to anything I can reach… with my trembling fingers. On that last point, learnt today why non-trembling fingers are a huge asset – especially in the context of cutting fingernails! Ouch!! πŸ™

We are the lions!

I actually saw this on Facebook a few days back… I cannot locate it anymore (one of those friend-likes-funny-group posts). So I recreated the cartoon myself – but the credit goes to somebody else who I do not know!

That said, here is to all my Detroit friends!!!

I do not think I am under the weather….

To understand my attitude towards medicine, you have to take into consideration three things:
1. I come from a long line of hypochondriacs. For example, when the doctor tells my dad during a visit that he does not think he is a hypochondriac, my dad thinks that is the GOOD NEWS!! πŸ™‚
2. In India, everybody is a freelance doctor. Very few have medicine degrees but everybody has an opinion on what is the required cure. (you do not need a prescription for most medicine in India). Any trace of a symptom rearing its head will be mercilessly squelched by a plethora of medicines as a preventive measure πŸ™‚ Every time I go to India, my brother, for example will shove Amoxicilins by the scores (and they are dirt cheap in India) in my bag for Sharmila’s annual strep throat attack.
3. I love being a contrarian and like people who sponsor and seek contrarian thoughts.

With the end result that, I usually stay away from most medicines if I can help it. My excuse code is – let the immunity system figure it out first.

But today, even I, after a long 12-15 year hiatus, got sick and tired of being in bed for four days and succumbed to my brother. Took out one of those antibiotic tablets he sends for Sharmila and popped it. I called him and told him of the unthinkable I have done and also said that since I never take medicine, I figured, one will do the magic. He said something derogatory about life not being math and that I should have three a day for three days. I told him I will do so when he produces his Doctor’s certificate πŸ™‚

But I do realize that for me to pop an antibiotic, I am no more under the weather. I am clearly and squarely under the climate now πŸ™‚

Dreamliner Dome

New Orleans Superdome to be renamed the Dreamliner Dome πŸ™‚ Here is an irony – switched to NFL channel and the ticker says -“NFL and GE partner for concussion research”. How about some partnership with General Electricity for some real electricity? πŸ™‚

Caught in the middle!!

There is at least one person who tonight will be extremely torn after the Super Bowl. And that is Mrs. Harbaugh πŸ™‚ Β She cannot possibly show too much happiness nor too much sadness !!!

To a lesser extent, Jay Harbaugh – 23-year old son of 49-ers’ head coach Jim Harbaugh will be in somewhat of a same predicament. He works for his uncle Raven’s head coach John Harbaugh as part of video and strength staff!!!
