Star

Forgot to post a puzzle on my flight back from DC.
Here is one I remember from my childhood days.
Think about a simple picture of a star with 5 corners (not 6). I have attached a picture. So, there are 10 points – 5 outside and 5 inside (Iย marked them 1 thru 10 in the picture). The goal of the puzzle is to check off as many of those points as you can. The process of how to check off is the following: You start from any unchecked point and then going in a straight line, skip the next point (checked or unchecked) and the next point you land on gets checked off. So, if you start from 8, you can skip 6 and check off 5 or skip 10 and check off 1. Then you start from another unchecked point and keep doing this. You always have to start from an unchecked point. Question is – what is the maximum number of points you can check off and how.
(as always, if you know or think have found the answer, send me a personal message)

The wasp

From my favorite Ogden Nash – this one describes “The Wasp”

The wasp and all his numerous familyย
I look upon as a major calamity.ย
He throws open his nest with prodigality,ย
But I distrust his waspitality.

Paul Ryan – the next president??? :-)

Romney at it again!! He introduced his running mate Paul Ryan this morning as the “next President of USA”. Either he plans to die in the run up to the election or outsource his job after winning the election ๐Ÿ™‚ Either way, can we push out the election date? I need some more stand up comedy material ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

What are we fighting for?

“An American judo fighter was expelled from the Olympics after testing positive for marijuana. Officials became suspicious when he kept stopping the match and saying, ‘What are we fighting for, man?'” โ€“Conan O’Brien

Can I have a million dollars? :-)

Any one of you who have been with me to a bar or restaurant probably know that I often respond to the barman / waiter’s usual question of “Can I get you anything else?” with “Yes. A million dollars would help.” It almost always leads to some laughs and breaks the formality. The standard answers are “If I had it, I would not be here” or “If I find it, I will be sure to share” and so on..

This week I was having lunch at J. Alexander in Dunwoody with some execs from LLS and the waitress had a memorable and very witty answer. Moment I responded to her usual question with “Sure. A million dollars please”, she thought for a moment and said “No problem. It will cost you two (million) though”. She had me beat ๐Ÿ™‚ Loved it ๐Ÿ™‚

Indian Olympics

Couple of days back, I had written about how I, having been conditioned by NBC’s coverage was surprised to find out that we were trailing China in gold and medal count in general. Which led to some interesting observations and comments from my friends including how China’s coverage is also one-sided and some analysis of who is leading in medals per thousand people of population and per dollar of GDP and such.
After reading all the comments, I came to realize the advantage of growing up in India. Since we could not win any medal by ourselves, we got to see all the great athletes from all the countries ๐Ÿ™‚
