What’s up with Indian moms?
The new surgeon general of US – in fact the youngest one ever – is an Indian American. Looking at the picture of what seems like his swearing in or whatever they go thru to start on their job, I am reminded about a hilarious observation Sharmila had made once – “Indian moms never smile in pictures”. As incredible as it sounds – almost all pictures I have seen after that (especially if they are visiting the U.S.), that has turned out to be true!!! Good to know some of this truisms hold at the highest levels too!!!
We are in for trouble…
This is going to be interesting for me…
For visiting purposes, I am not the Europe kind of guy – I am the South or Central America guy. I have never been much into castles, forts, architecture, famous paintings… or for that matter anything else that has to do with long dead people. I love the beaches, mountains, oceans, forests and anything to do with nature. Plus they let you drink your wine more freely there π
But here we are, on our way to Italy – I being completely outvoted by three girls in the house. On the other hand, I hear there are some nice bottles of wine there with my name written on them π
Cosmic Connection – revisited…
About a year back, on July 15, 2014, sitting by the pool chatting with my visiting in laws, I had made a remarkable discovery. A lady we knew – I had never met but Sharmila had – who had lived in Atlanta and Dallas (just like us but we did not overlap) and who used the same nanny that we had for Nikita when we left Dallas and was a close friend of my closest friend (Amitesh) in Atlanta – turned out to be a relative of mine. Very distant though, I must say. I think my father in law’s sister’s husband’s brother’s son’s daughter is Bidisha. I had called her up that day to let her know about my discovery and she had dubbed it Cosmic Connection.
This Sunday, I finally managed to meet her at Amitesh’s house!!!
Splashdown!!
That would require a major guess!!
This one comes from Anand Iyer who brought my attention to the remarkable escape of two inmates from a New York top security prison. The funny part was the proverbial Microsoft Support-esque comments from the New York State Police Department leader in charge of the workforce combing thru the area regarding the possible whereabouts of the fugitives – “They could be literally anywhere”.
The name of the leader? You can’t make these things up – his name is Major Guess!!
Date night with a difference
From the bartender’s corner – Ginger Rogers
Invented in the famous bar and restaurant Zefiro in Portland, OR, this drink is named after the famous actress/dancer/singer. Which is a little curious, since she was a teetotaler. How she managed to marry five times and not ever get drunk is something beyond me.
In any case, this is gin, lime juice, ginger syrup, ginger ale and mint. Very refreshing drink for a hot day like today.
