That was an uncommon name in the list…
Upon entering Delhi airport last night, I was glancing thru the list of flights on the boards to see where I was supposed to go and finish my check in for the Lufthansa flights. Somehow, among all those flights listed in three big boards, my eyes got arrested on one line.
“Durgapur”!!! My small old town has flights going from Delhi!! I was aware of a new airport and I think there are very limited number of flights going there (one? two?) but I had never seen Durgapur’s name up their on those flight boards.
That was a random moment from this trip – but one of somehow great satisfaction. Not sure why?
Maybe a throw back to those good old days when we – the three siblings- were all below 10 and used to play imaginary airplane games in our backyard?
Like I said – felt good though!!
Even I get an inexplicable kick to hear about Durgapur……
The Durgapur airport is almost near the Kolkata one đŸ™‚ It is near Ukhra !!!
Is it Ukhra ? Or is it between DSP Main gate and Andal
Andal, but towards Ukhra, towards Birbhum that it. If you are going towards Andal, it is far down on the right hand side.
Well….well….so Durgapur has an Air Port….. Thanks for your post which helped in getting this news…
i also learnt that we have an airline called zoom air???
Suraj, did you ever live on Joydeb Road/ Avenue?……..In Durgapur?
Suraj, Zoom Air just got started earlier this year. In fact, their first flight was to Durgapur (from their hub Delhi). They have 2 CRJs (small planes), I think.
The udaan scheme where govt gives a subsidy for 10 years and fare is fixed depending on flight duration.
Rajib, I recently found out you can buy a ticket from Malaysia to Trichy (25 miles from where my ancestors come) for $79. That might be a route I take on one of my trips and surprise my uncle in our home town
You my dear friend were supposed to catch up with me in Delhi ..
