“People often ask me…”

Have you ever read any Facebook or Linkedin post that starts “I am often asked…”? I do not know about you but my first reaction is “No, you are not!”

You are just trying to act as if you are reluctantly trying to explain something. Truth is you want to make a point. I am good with that. This is social media. You can say anything you want on this platform without having to explain why.

And I am interested in hearing your point of view – that is why I follow you – no need to show any modicum of made up humility.

I have never seen anybody write – “People often ask me why I am such an idiot or so belligerent…”. It is always “People often ask me what are my secrets to being a great leader … “ or some made up stuff like that.

Okay, what is my point?

First, I realize there are exceptions to the above.

Second, during my birthday calls – and my postings of my annual dashboards – a recurring theme in the questions I am asked has gotten me to think hard about the answer. There are parts to the answer that are unflattering to me…

But I wanted to make sure that my temerity in trying to answer the theme of the questions I am asked “How come you get so much time to do things” is well understood. I am aware that posting that question itself is crossing the lines of humility that I was talking about.

I wanted this background to explain in the next post what are the conclusions I have come to about myself (like I said, not all of it is flattering to me) about that question I get asked.

Which downtown Alpharetta bar have you seen this in?

If you can find another one like this in downtown Alpharetta, you will know how I got this. It was gifted by the manager of that place. Hint: I often write about their incredible staff there!!

It is an intriguing drawing of the Alpharetta/Milton area. It is not drawn to scale or even to a map. But you will find most all the old establishments, shops, roads, restaurants etc in this picture.

I always marvel that every time I study the picture, I find yet another familiar place.

This was created by an artist called Sharon L Beamish (if I am reading the handwriting correctly).

It is finally up on the wall

Remember the mosaic we got from that place in Jordan where the artists are all physically challenged? Well, four months later it is finally up on the wall. Needed a lot of thought and ideation from Sharmila. That thing is very very heavy. Looks like finally she was able to put a few accoutrements together and the handyman fixed it up!

Another upside to writing to pen pals

I had talked about how, ever since I started having pen pals again, I am able to regularly write letters every weekend . Yet another upside is sitting down with the letters from the week over a cup of coffee and read them intently. First, there is always some very interesting aspects of stationery, ink, pen, decorations and the like. Second, the different people have so many different life stories, interests and insights!!

Just observing how different people in different parts of the world number their pages is an intriguing study!

This was from a couple friend in Australia and another from a lady in Lithuania!
